Valakas, the Fire Dragon, is the epic boss of the Lair of Valakas, beyond the Hall of Flames at the Forge of the Gods. He first appears in Chronicle 13 (Eternal Legacy).
After a kill, Valakas comes back 7 to 8 days later, between 22:30 and 23:30 (server time), but only in even-numbered weeks of the year. A return that would fall in an odd week moves on by 7 days, so in practice he comes back about every two weeks, in the weeks between Antharas. The raid boss list in the Community Board shows the earliest time he can appear.
Waking Valakas
The first player to enter the nest starts a 20-minute countdown. When it ends, Valakas rises and the fight begins. Everyone must be inside before that: once he is awake, the Heart of Volcano lets nobody else in.
Valakas goes back to sleep
If nobody damages Valakas for 15 minutes, he falls asleep again. Everyone in the lair is sent out near Goddard, and each player needs a new Floating Stone to get back in.
Valakas' weaknesses
| Weak to | Effect |
|---|---|
| Water | Water skills, and hits from a water-attribute weapon, deal about 40% more damage. |
| Magic | His physical defence is about three and a half times his magic defence, so magic gets through more easily. |
| Daggers and bows | Valakas takes 25% more damage from dagger and bow attacks. |
| Dragon bonuses | Valakas is a Dragon, so bonuses against Dragons work on him. For example, |
What Valakas resists
Valakas has 90% resistance to stun, sleep, root, paralysis and fear. Fire skills and fire-attribute weapons deal about 30% less damage to him.
How Valakas fights
Valakas attacks anyone in his lair. Two habits shape the fight:
- Lava Skin: each time the raid takes a large bite out of his HP (about 5% in a short time), he breaks off, moves to another spot and casts Lava Skin. It gives him ten times his P. Def. and M. Def. for 30 seconds. Save your big damage until it ends.
- Regeneration: the lower his HP, the faster he regenerates, so keep the damage steady.
| Skill | What it does |
|---|---|
| Valakas Dragon Breath | Fire breath on everyone in front of him, out to a very long range. |
| Valakas Trample | Hits everyone close in front of him. |
| Valakas Tail Stomp | Hits everyone behind him, out to a long range. |
| Valakas Shock | Throws the players behind him into the air and stuns them for 9 seconds. He readies it when most of the damage comes from behind. |
| Valakas Fear | Makes everyone in front of him flee in fear. |
| Valakas Meteor Storm | Magic damage on everyone around him. |
Lavasaurus Elders
Each hit on Valakas has a small chance (2%) to call 2 to 4 Lavasaurus Elders (level 83) next to the attacker. They cast fire magic. Kill them quickly, especially near your healers.
Notable drops
The loot goes to the player who dealt the most damage, and their party.
