Gabrielle is gathering an expedition against Antharas, the Land Dragon. The force field around his lair only opens to those who carry a Portal Stone, and she tests every volunteer first: four watchmen across the continent, two Abyssal Jewels, and a last jewel in Dragon Valley.
Portal Stone cannot be traded, dropped, sold or stored in a warehouse, and the Heart of Warding takes one each time it lets you into the lair. Repeat the quest to keep a few in reserve; they stack.Step 1 — Gabrielle
Talk to Gabrielle in Giran. Choose "I will join your expedition!", "Tell me more about the force field." and "I will take the test.". She gives you a 
Feather of Gabrielle and sends you to four watchmen.
Step 2 — Four Marks of Watchman
Each watchman gives you one 
Mark of Watchman for their task. Do them in any order.

Bring the four marks back to Gabrielle and choose "Tell me about the next stage.".
Step 3 — Two Abyssal Jewels
Two more marks, each from an Abyssal Jewel. Talk to the watchman first, then go to the jewel.

The jewels cannot be destroyed. Hold Ctrl and attack one:
- Below two-thirds of its HP, each hit can call 20 guardians around it, for one minute. It calls them once, and again only after it heals back above 90%.
- Below one-third of its HP, each hit has a 33% chance to give you its fragment.
- Kill one guardian for its fang.
Bring the fragment and the fang back to the watchman for his mark. With both marks, talk to Gabrielle again, and she gives you the 
Herald of Slayer.
Step 4 — The last jewel
Talk to Gilmore, the Antharas Watchman at the entrance of Dragon Valley. Then hunt Cave Maidens (55) and Cave Keepers (54) in Dragon Valley.
One kill in five brings up a third Abyssal Jewel for one minute. Break it the same way. It calls three Jewel Guardian Pytons (58), and below one-third of its HP it can give you the third fragment. If it vanishes first, keep hunting for the next one.
Step 5 — the Portal Stone
Take the third fragment to Theodric, the Antharas Watchman at the entrance of Antharas' Lair, and choose "I am ready to confront Antharas!". He takes the fragment and the Herald of Slayer and gives you the reward. The quest ends, and you can start it again at Gabrielle.
